The Birth of Christmas

‘Where did this Christmas character originate?’
The story takes us to Turkey in the 3rd century and a monk named Saint Nicholas who was renowned for his kindness and thus became the patron saint of Christmas. Since then Santa has become an icon of Christmas who rides his sleigh pulled by reindeer (Including Rudolph the infamous red-nosed reindeer) across the sky and down the chimney to deliver presents. The hanging of stockings over the hearth can be attributed to this generous monk whose legend has it poured gold coins down a chimney which landed in stockings. Christmas cards were first recorded in 18th century England while Christmas songs were first heard in ancient Rome and every year we get delighted with some of the Xmas favorites like ‘White Christmas’ by Bing Crosby and ‘All I Want For Christmas’ sung by Mariah Carey.
